My trips before work

Ok, as of now, work really starts in a week. For the past few weeks, i finally got to experience a mini "Amazing Race" kinda life, the travelling-to-a-few-places-within-a-short-span-of-time experience. Been lucky enough to make it to Sydney, Redang and Hong Kong and experienced the change from winter to summer. So i thought tt i'll juz write abit about each of the places i've been to or i'll feel empty inside. Juz read on and luff, enjoy or juz take notes if u're going to any of these places.

Trip 1: Sydney
Summary: This place is very metropolitan, which is why i surely won't mind going back again. It was winter when i went there, sort of underestimated the winter and only brought the johns, could barely survive the Ice Age when the wind blows.
The Good: Icons like the Opera House, Bridge etc. Scenery at Blue Mountains, Food (really cheap and the servings are meant for the Caucasians, i usually can't finish my food), TravelPass (A$33 for a week of unlimited travel on rail, bus & ferry, a damn essential thing to have), My Hotel, The Crest (in a good location and very underrated = cheap), Bondi Junction (bought so many things in the 1 hr plus i'm there, a pity i spent my last hours in Sydney there), Fish Market (1st time in my life i ate so many types of seafood for lunch, it was my only meal tt day)
The Bad: Star City (A Casino, gambling is evil, u can never beat the House unless u're the House. Juz grab the free membership and get the free drinks and really cheap food), Paddington Market (Another overrated and overpriced pasar malam, a suckerspot for tourists)
The Ugly: Gamblers at Star City (I saw the Gambler's Conceit Theory in live action, tts how a casino makes money and it was sadistic fun looking at the roulette table being cleared out after every round, even though you wish the money goes into your pocket instead of the hole beside the croupier)
Lessons Learnt: Its sometimes better to take the road less travelled, Bondi Junction beats Paddington Market hands down & the standard to living is high and ridiculous; e.g. a bottle of wine is cheaper than fresh fruits or fruit juice.

Trip 2: Redang
Summary: This is a place i got to go bcos i was on a cruise and the ship stopped there. Warm place, full of watersports & beaches, period. Been a long while since i was last on a cruise.
The Good: Food (its included in the package, you could eat like 6 meals a day but just after i came back frm Sydney, i can't eat tt much), Arcade (Sort of reliving my teen years, playing the arcade games again), Scenery(Redang has beautiful scenery and nice beaches), BBQ dinner (This is one bbq u dun need to DIY, juz collect the bbq-ed food), The Casino (My source of free drinks even if u dun gamble, they've got a nice variety, all u gotta do is ask)
The Bad: Bingo (A cheapskate version where the form of marking the numbers is by poking it with a toothpick, i think the company lost money on their Hawaiian cruise and this might be a direct consequence of tt. In the end i ending up poking myself with the toothpick more often than i poked my ticket)
The Ugly: Bumpkins (I dun mean to be mean, but over at the cruise, the people who showed ugliness happened to be country bumpkins from another country who were rowdy, can’t wait for ppl in the lift to get out along with other antics)
Lessons Learnt: I really think tt the casino is an integral part of the cruise ship and its survival to a large extent depends on it while the entertainment and other activities are juz there to make up the package. (Not the other way round)

Trip 3: Hong Kong
Summary: The only thing I knew about this place before I visited it is tt its city life is juz like S’pore and it’s famous for its Peak, dim sum and
Disneyland.
The Good: Shopping (cheap stuff and the material is good, I estimate tt more than half the time I was there, I ended up shopping), the Peak (nice scenery and Mdm Tussauds was pretty nice to visit), Star ferry (cheap and scenic way to cross the river), food (at first all I ate was fast food, but then I found some pretty nice places to eat), scenery (I’m amazed by the sights, simply breathtaking)
The Bad:
Disneyland (overrated, could finish it by early afternoon & the most thrilling ride is rollercoaster in the dark), the weather (so warm and humid, but then again if u go there in winter, you probably won’t get summer clothes you could use in S’pore, so it’s a tradeoff)
The Ugly: Bumpkins (see above, cept tt their skin colour was different, I juz happened to bump into a hoard in
Disneyland)
Lessons Learnt: This is a shopping paradise to a certain extent, juz be prepared to walk. The subway system is comparable to S’pore’s, juz tt its cheaper to use)

I can say i've really enjoyed the travelling. It'll be quite some time before i can travel and holiday like tt.

I'll be back

I haven't been writing anything on this space for so long, i'm beginning to wonder if i'll write anything at all. But i probably should, when i get back from my trip as well as when i start working. I'll be away from S'pore on and off this couple of weeks, till 8 July. If there's anything, i'll be available after tt date.

For now i have to say tt life after exams and before work is very good, i hope to enjoy it while it lasts and it will last for slightly more than a month. After this period of intensive rest, i probably have to look far ahead into the future before i get to enjoy something like tt again.

Freeom... does it exist??

I managed to finish the thesis on deadline day itself, so uncharacteristic of me. It should have been done much earlier but due to reasons i dun want to talk about, i ended up finishing with 0 days to spare.

Freedom, i tot to myself when i handed in yesterday. It was only till today that reality sunk in, I still got a whole lot of backlog to clear up. Shit!! I guess the only thing i can do is to suck thumb and do it. I thought that the last sem will be a relaxing 1. I even managed a 1 day week but at last, it was not to be. So now, besides clearing up after my own shit which i din clear, i gotta find a job. Fast!!

I still gotta say this, i even with all the backlog of work to clear, i'm smelling the holidays in the air already. Though June is still ard 3 mths away, that'll hopefully be the final brain draining activity for the year 2007. I'll be entering the workforce as a retard after that lol. Back to work, but luckily, the remaining work is much more managable.

The Bz mode is still on

By looking at the frequency of my update, you could guess that i'm still in a bz mode. But 1st, an update since the last time i updated this page. I barely managed to squeeze every damn module of mine onto Monday. I can only describe my timetable for my last semester in sch as sweet.

Not that long ago, i recieved an email which caused my emotions to be confused. It read something like "dear students, bcos of the job fair, the department has agreed to some society's appeal to have the dissertation deadline is extended to the end of the mth." I dunno whether to laugh at the stupid excuse or cry because the department accepted such bullshit.

I've been able to chat with some fellow students recently and for some weird reason, it seems that almost everyone i talked to believed i've finish the thesis. I dunno how they get this idea, but i'm juz gonna finish it asap and pray hard as hell my sup accepts what i wrote.
Back to slogging, my bz mode is still on. I hope that the next time i blog, it'll mean that the Dissertation Express has reached its destination.

New Year Update

In case you were wondering, my existance is not a myth. I am very much alive but am damn busy with my schwork and thesis to write anything here for eons. So this is my little update and my first post in 2007. You are guessing that i'm blogging bcos i'm not as busy. Thats only true this week, the 1st week of sch where lecturers are kind.

First things first, this is my last semester in NUS and all i get to say is that after almost 4 years plus of being in it, the deficiencies of the system is still present since i got there 3 yrs plus ago. I'm not going to make an extensive bitch about the system, juz short points and you get the bloody idea.
  • People are not motivated to study in the last few sems, cos the CAP system fixes you up. Time to learn from the Aussie Unis eh mate?
  • CORS has fucked up again, more than once. Seriously, whats new?
  • At the end of yr 4, i've got close to 6000 in prog acct and close to zero in general. What happened to proper point allocation for bidding?
The way things are looking, things aren't gonna get better anytime soon. So i guess to all the noobs entering this particular uni, juz be prepared to suck it all up.

I'm not as free as you think, although i'm planning for a bloody good timetable. I'll let you know if i succeed (just a form of sharing, dun mistake it for gloating or showing off). One of the best combi of mine got scuppered by a mere 15 points when i failed to bid for a module (again fucked up point allocation is to be blamed).

My fav team Chelsea's playing later against Ycomb. Lets hope they win big. I know 2006 Man Utd has been damn good, lets hope 2007 will be Chelsea's. Everything's up for grabs, i hope they win the big one(s) and whatever they can. Considering the misfiring Ukrianian, the position of the Blues now can be considered ok. Lets hope they all start clicking into gear soon. But for 2nite, a midfielder and a rightback at centre defence is what makes me wanna watch the match later.

One thing's for sure, i'm gonna try to write more this year and lets hope we all have a better year ahead. Cheers and good luck mates. We're all gonna need it at some point this year.
